The Sheehan Family & the Propane Industry
Out of the eight children in the Sheehan family, the last three made Rural Computer Consultants (RCC) what it is today. Sue has always been stuck in the middle between Kevin and Brian in age, and their working relationship is no different. Sue joined the RCC family 23 years ago after she spent almost 20 years managing her own miniature department store in Bird Island, MN across the street from Sheehan’s Gas and the previous location for Rural Computer Consultants. At that time, she used RCC’s FDS software to track inventory and financials for her store so she had been familiar with the product long before she started supporting it. Even before that, she had been around the propane business from a very young age. The Sheehan family attended propane get-togethers since her father Fabe owned and operated Sheehan’s Gas. She also worked in the Sheehan’s Gas office doing light bookkeeping through her middle and high school years.
Traveling with RCC since She was Young
Not only did the Sheehan family travel for work to propane events, but they also got to travel for fun. Parents Fabe and Lorraine loved to travel, and since Sue and Brian were the youngest of the eight, they were lucky to travel the most. That love of travel has now been instilled in Sue as she travels to a few of the larger propane conventions every year as well as visiting many customers nationwide. Sue has also been on a trip to New Zealand to visit a customer there. If she didn’t work for RCC she would like to be a travel specialist or real estate agent. Her dream trip was to visit Hawaii, which she did last year before the pandemic hit. Now her dream is to visit China! She’ll make it there someday after she retires… if she ever does.
The Start of Sue’s Family
Alaska is one of the top spots Sue has traveled in her lifetime. She and her husband Steve took a cruise there for their 25th wedding anniversary. They were married for 38 years before he passed away in 2014 from an extended illness. They met in high school at a dance in a local area ballroom. She couldn’t stand him to start with, but after some coaxing (and a phone call to the school to get her out of class) he started to grow on her. Her favorite memories with him include anything having to do with their children and grandchildren. They brought three children into this world. Erik is the eldest. After a number of years in the corporate world, he returned to the area to take over the family farm upon Steve’s death. He and his wife have two little boys. The middle child is Abby who works at RCC with the whole family. She and her husband have two little girls. The youngest is Holly and she also joined the RCC family business six years ago. Holly and her husband have two children; 1 girl and 1 boy.
What a Busy Woman in Propane does on Weekends
Sue’s perfect weekend would be enjoying a little bit of everything. She would enjoy some time with friends and family, relax, catch up on sleep, go to church, watch TV, and work just a LITTLE. Currently, work takes up a larger portion than it should but she is trying really hard to tone it down at her children’s request.
